Shiatsu Massage

Harmonizing the flow of Qi through the Body

Shiatsu is Japanese form of massage similar to acupressure, in that it addresses both the physical and energetic body, removing blockages and promoting the flow of Qi.  Shiatsu, like Tuina, is considered a modality within oriental medicine.

Shiatsu practitioners use a combination of hand techniques including gentle rocking and deep presses, working along the acupuncture channels (ie, meridians) of the body, releasing physical and energetic blockages and stimulating Qi.  Recipients of shiatsu massage experience an enormous release of tension.  A 90-minute shiatsu massage leaves the recipient feeling energetically harmonized and wonderfully relaxed in body, mind and spirit.

As a oriental medicine clinical intern at the National College of Natural Medicine, Erika Marie is glad to be able to offer and incoporate shiatsu on her shifts.  The style of shiatsu she practices is performed on a massage table and the clients remain fully clothed throughout the session.   While she does not have appointments dedicated to shiatsu massage, she is happy to offer shiatsu as an effective alternative therapy to clients who are shy of needles.  She is also glad to incorporate shiatsu into the acupuncture and oriental herbs appointments.

All of Erika's oriental medicine appointments (including acupuncture, herbs, and shiatsu) are offered through NCNM.  If you would like to schedule an appointment for these services, please see her NCNM shift schedule and contact the NCNM clinic at 503.552.1551.
